Woven Threads

To be African is to understand that stories are told not just in words, but in threads. Woven into every fabric is a tale—of pride, purpose, and people. "Woven Threads" is a celebration of this storytelling tradition and how it shows up in the garments and goods we offer at MyRoots.

Take Kente, for example. A Ghanaian textile made from interwoven silk and cotton, Kente was once reserved for royalty. Every color, every shape, has meaning. Red for sacrifice, green for growth, gold for wealth and royalty. When you wear it, you’re not just wearing style—you’re wearing history.

This blog will explore textiles across Africa—from the indigo-dyed cloths of Mali to the mud cloths of the Dogon people. We’ll also show how our modern products stay true to these traditions while reimagining them for a global audience.

We are connected by more than borders. We are connected by threads.
